Towards The East River: Sai Kung and its Hinterland
– a talk by Jason Wordie

Renowned local historian and author Jason Wordie will give an illustrated lecture to a meeting of Friends of Sai Kung on Thursday 15 March 2018. 
The event will be held at The Hive, 5 Tai Mong Tsai Road, Sai Kung, from 7-8pm. Doors open at 6.30pm.


In this lecture, Jason will discuss the development and background of Sai Kung and its surrounding area from early times into the 1970s and beyond. Major milestones
include:
 Arrival of Hakka settlers from the East River, 1660s
 Missionary activities in the pre-colonial period, 1860s
 The anti-Japanese resistance movement, 1940s
 Construction of High Island reservoir, 1970s

These themes, plus various lesser-known facets of Sai Kung's history, will be explored in this wide-ranging lecture.

Price: $250 Friends of Sai Kung and Hive members (and any guests), payable at the door. 

Others may attend, if they join Friends of Sai Kung either before or at the event*. 
Annual subscription is $100, $50 for Senior (65 or over). 

*should the event be oversubscribed, priority will be given to FSK and Hive members.

Drinks and light snacks will be provided. BYO food and drinks are also welcome – and recommended for those with special dietary requirements
